Take a Closer Look at Hershey, PA
Milton Hershey intentionally named the town’s center crossroads Chocolate and Cocoa Avenues to anchor its identity in the chocolate company. Residential street names like Trinidad and Caracas reflect the global regions where cacao grows.
Milton Hershey chartered a trolley system in 1903 to provide easy access to and from his model town for both workers and visitors. Heavy subsidies kept the basic fare at five cents.
You can still take a ride on a replica of one of Hershey’s trolleys. Explore Hershey’s history and enjoy chocolate samples as you visit Milton Hershey’s birthplace and other local landmarks.
Part of Hershey’s original factory site still stands near the iconic twin smokestacks visible from around town. It still serves as the corporate headquarters for The Hershey Company.
Many early Hershey workers owned homes built within walking distance of the factory. Utilities and other amenities were provided for free.
Milton Hershey donated land and provided funding for the local public schools. He also created the Hershey Industrial School, known today as Milton Hershey School.
